Every person, no matter where they are on their aging journey, deserves to be able to continue to do the things they enjoy, as well as explore new ways to learn, engage, and enjoy life. Senior living residents—whether in memory care, assisted living, or independent living—have the advantage of an environment designed specifically for them with a range of interesting activities and amenities.
For example, in our residential home model at Assured Senior Living, a small group of residents share a lovely home in a suburban neighborhood and engage in familiar activities throughout the day. To give you a better idea, imagine your loved one is a resident. Here’s just an idea of how their day might go.
Waking in a comfortable home setting is a great way to welcome the morning. With some friendly assistance from a caregiver, your loved one is dressed and headed to a delicious breakfast just a few steps away in the dining area. It’s so nice to join friends each morning and feel comfortable and cared for, without worries of home upkeep or chores.
What’s on the agenda for your loved one’s morning? It could be so many things: perhaps a walk around the neighborhood with staff and other residents. A stretching class. Sing-a-long. An exotic trip via virtual reality. Or, expressing their creative side in art therapy. Maybe helping a staff member fold laundry or collect the mail, or other activities that feel familiar.
There’s always the pleasure of visits from family members. At Assured Senior Living, you could sit outdoors on the patio with your older adult and take in fresh air and sunshine. Visiting a residential assisted living memory care home feels easy and enjoyable; you’re just dropping in on someone you love without getting lost in a large community that feels can feel impersonal.
When lunchtime rolls around, residents are eager to taste the delicious, freshly prepared meals. Comfort food and favorites are often on the menu, and residents can help with preparing lunch and getting the dining area ready for the meal.
If your loved one likes to nap in the afternoon, no problem, their room is right there. But with so much they can do, they are more likely to join in the fun! For example, a concert performed by a local children’s choir. A scenic drive through a beautiful park. Other possibilities are karaoke, games, an ice cream social, watching sports on television, movies, aromatherapy, and much, much more.
That’s the beauty of residential senior living. Your loved one is living in a home, with easy access to a kitchen, den, living room, patio, front porch and activity room—so they can have lots of ways to stay connected and engaged. That’s good for all senior living residents, especially those with cognitive issues who do best when they are out of their rooms and staying active during the day.
Dinnertime should be a pleasure for all senior living residents, and at Assured Senior Living, it is!
Residents are invited to be a part of the process: sweeping the floor, setting the table, assisting with food prep, and so on. Pitching in gives your loved one the opportunity to feel a sense of purpose, knowing he or she is actively participating in their daily life. It also helps build a bond with other residents which you can feel right away when you enter one of our residential homes. Smaller is more familiar; smaller is easier to navigate and smaller feels like home.
We believe that life is always worth living to the fullest. We are here to help you and our loved one turn the page and begin an exciting new chapter. We invite you to learn more.
