Comparing the Cost of Senior Living with Staying at Home

Francis LeGasse Jr • March 7, 2023

When you first examine the cost of senior living, it’s important to not look solely at the monthly fee and compare that to your current situation, especially if you no longer have a mortgage payment. If you do, you might conclude that senior living is much costlier than remaining at home.

But what exactly are you comparing? Are you including all the expenses and fees you incur living at home? Have you considered all the amenities and services a monthly fee in senior living covers?

At Assured Senior Living, we want you to make the choice that works best for you and your family. We’ve put together a chart to help you make an accurate comparison of the cost of senior living versus the cost of staying at home. As you give it thought, you’re most likely to come up with even more expenses that come with a home. Be sure to record those as well.

But that’s not the whole story. It’s not only that senior living can offer you so many more advantages than staying at home, it’s how the right environment can enhance your life, or the life of your loved one.

When comparing the cost of senior living to staying at home:

• It’s more than having meals provided for you. Choosing senior living means no more trying to get to a grocer in bad weather, no more possible hazards of cooking, no more dining alone and no more missing out on vital nutrients. In fact, living in a residential senior home such as Assured Senior living goes even further. Residents come together for a family-style meal in a cozy dining area and also are invited to help set the table, assist with putting the meal together, and so on.

You enjoy a delicious, healthy meal, and you don’t have to give up that “home-cooked” experience. (But you don’t have to do the dishes!)

• It’s more than being around more people. Living at home alone, feeling isolated and lonely, can be very harmful to a senior’s health. Choosing a vibrant and welcoming senior living environment opens up new ways to socialize, connect and engage with a variety of people who become like family.

In a senior living setting, you have access to art programs, concerts, games, special outings, parties, special events, holiday celebrations, and good conversation when you want it. It’s hard to put a price on just how much this stimulating and inspiring ambiance is worth to your health and wellbeing.

• It’s more than feeling safe. Choose senior living and you benefit from a sense of security that gives you confidence all day and all night. There’s someone available 24/7 if you need them, so no more worries about a branch hitting the roof during a storm or electricity failing or who is knocking on your door at midnight. You know you are in a supportive environment that is designed to help you be as active and heathy as possible.

You’ll feel a spring in your step. You’ll wake up in the morning knowing good friends are happy to greet you. Having a purpose and feeling good in your environment is key to healthy aging—senior living is your ticket!

• It’s more than having a place to live. Feeling at home…happy and healthy…where you can thrive because you are receiving the finest care and expert attention…that’s what you want in a senior living community. At Assured Senior Living, we believe cutting-edge care and the warmth of home can go together—and we make it happen.

Our neighborhood clusters of resident homes create a small, tight-knit assisted living memory care community where members feel at home amongst close friends and neighbors. In addition, we make it easy for you to know ahead of time exactly what your financial commitment will be.
